Valentines Day 2012

There is so much commentary going on about the floral business and they say any press is good press. I for one don't believe that putting out negative energy in any way is good. For days I was riveted to the conversation about how bad certain things are to the floral industry, blah, blah... However just like in my life I prefer to focus on what is good and not fill my head with negativity. So we are busy, we are having fun and we do Great work!
I want to get better at what I do all the time and I want to have fun. Today we are making the cutest little baby rose wrist corsages for The Goodnoe Father-Daughter dance.
We are doing a wedding at
Citizens Bank Park and....we are making lots of GORGEOUS roses and floral arrangements. That is very good!

Staying connected

So... I have been listening to motivational speakers for years. Just recently I have been turned on to Seth Godin, Darren Hardy and people from Success Magazine. They have been advising people to really think about why they do what they do. The life of a retail florist is interesting. We have times when we are so busy that we can't catch our breath and then there are days like today and yesterday when we get to sit, dream and read Facebook!? But it also gives me time to contemplate, yesterday I had "light bulb" moment!
This past summer we were doing a wedding at The Center Bridge Inn and I was chatting with the brides Aunt. I ask her where she's from and she says oh originally I'm from Newtown right up the road. I laugh and say oh that's where our store is. I ask her her maiden name and she tells me and I say do
you know E and she says oh E is my mother! I am very excited cause I haven't seen E in a few years. She has been living at one the retirement homes and I lost track of her. I very excitedly go over and reintroduce myself to E, who still is doing very well, but doesn't drive any more. Hence, the reason I haven't seen her in a few years. We chat and get reacquainted.
Oh yeah, there was a wedding going on. The bride was E's granddaughter I'm sure you guessed. Soo... The real reason for this long story is yesterday
E came to see me! I have so many wonderful people who I have known over 22 years of working here. I keep up
With lots of them. When people get older and can't get around I miss them and ask for them. So... Reason number one I do what I do is the life long connections we get to make with people. Thanks for that reminder E as I am coming up to one of the toughest holidays... I always LOVE seeing all my besties!!!
